Raul Meireles


Profile Football Stars | Raul Meireles | By his great performances, Meireles was brought to the Portuguese powerhouse, FC Porto, winning three league titles in a row Primeira, adding two Portuguese Cups and three Portuguese Super Cup. In 2010 he moved to Liverpool where he won the 2011 PFA Fans' Player of the Year award following a very successful first season in the Premier League. On August 2011, Meireles signed for Chelsea, joining his former manager André Villas-Boas with whom he had spent a short period of time. In international football career began at youth Meireles national level when he Represented the Under-16 side at the 2000 UEFA European Under-16 Football Championship in Israel.


In the summer of 2001, the Desportivo Aves from the Liga de Honra (Portuguese second level football competition) signed on loan from Boavista Meireles, and he was presented on 8 July. He made his senior debut on 8 August 2001, a friendly match against Gondomar, Which Desportivo das Aves won 3-0. In his first campaign, Meireles clocked up only 16 league appearances. In the 2002-03 season, on 25 May 2003, he scored his first senior goal against União da Madeira Meireles fired a shot 30 meters out past the reach of the goalkeeper União He scored just one goal in twenty-six league appearances that season. In the 2003-04 season, he returned to Boavista after a two-year loan spell. Meireles made his debut in the Portuguese first league against Benfica on 17 August 2003, and was chosen as the man of the match by the Portuguese Record newspaper. That season, he failed to score any goals but, he made 29 league appearances, proving that he was important for the team.


Five days later, on 23 February, Meireles made his Premier League debut against Inter Milan, playing the entire 90 minutes. During that season, he made only 13 league appearances, ten as substitute, no recording goals. During the season 2005-06, on 19 February 2006, Meireles scored his first goal for the team in his 50th league appearance, giving a 1-0 home victory over Maritimo. Only three games later, on 10 March, he scored his second goal of the season in a 2-0 league triumph against Vitória de Setúbal. In that campaign, he scored two goals in 18 appearances, winning his first career title, the Portuguese league trophy, and some days later his second, the Portuguese Cup. In the following four seasons, Meireles featured regularly in Porto's midfield. He scored his first goal in the Champions League during the 2006-07 season, on 21 February 2007, against Chelsea.


Only four days later, he made his Champions League victory in a 4-1 over Steaua Bucharest at Anfield debut. on 16 January 2011, Meireles scored his first goal for Liverpool against Everton in a 2-2 Premier League draw at Anfield, coinciding with Kenny Dalglish's first home game back as manager. On 2 February 2011, he scored another goal, his third in four games in a 2-0 home victory against Stoke City, and four days later made it four in five, by scoring the victory goal at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea. his goal tally for Meireles Increased the club on 12 February by scoring against Wigan Athletic, taking his tally to five goals in six Premier League matches.  Meireles started the 2011-12 Premier League campaign as a 75th minute substitute against Sunderland.


In the following year, he scored his first Chelsea goal during their UEFA Champions League group stage 5-0 victory against Racing Genk.  On 12 December 2012, Meireles scored his first Premier League goal for the Blues in a 2-1 home win over league leaders Manchester United. In the following round, on 18 March, Meireles scored a goal and two assists provided to Fernando Torres game, who ended his goal drought 24 in the 5-2 win against Leicester City that sealed a berth for the Wembley FA Cup semi-final. On the final match day of the season, Meireles scored second goal of the Chelsea '2-1 victory, his second Premier League goal of the season, relegated over Blackburn.


Next year, Meireles Represented the under-17 team in the 2001 Meridian Cup held in Bari, Italy. Consequently, Portugal finished third in the competition. In November, he was named in the Portuguese squad for European Under-19 Championship qualifying tournament, where Portugal assured a place in the major competition, and Meireles scored one goal in The 2-1 loss against Belarus. Meireles regularly featured in the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.  As expected, on 10 May 2010, Meireles was named in the Portuguese squad for the 2010 World Cup. He started all of Portugal's matches at the tournament, scoring one goal in Portugal's second group stage match against North Korea in Cape Town.

Luís Figo


Profile Football Stars | Luís Figo |  Figo was the 2000 European Footballer of the Year, the 2001 FIFA World Player of the Year, and was named amongst the FIFA 100. Figo is one of the few football players to have played for both the Spanish rival clubs FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. He had a career highlighted by Several Successful trophy wins, Such as one Portuguese Cup, four La Liga titles, two Spanish Cups, three Spanish Super Cups, one UEFA Champions League titles, one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, two UEFA Super Cups, one Intercontinental Cup, four Serie A titles, one Italian Cup and Italian Super Cups three. Figo started his career at Sporting CP. He won his first senior international cap in 1991. Prior to that, he won the Under-21 World Championships and Under-16 European Championships with Portugal junior sides, alongside Rui Costa, Joao Pinto and he was also a significant part of Portugal's "Golden Generation".


In 1995, Figo looked poised to join one of the big clubs of Europe, but a dispute Between Italian clubs Juventus and Parma, with Figo having signed contracts with both clubs, resulted in an Italian two-year transfer ban on Figo, Effectively stopping any moves to Italy. However, the situation was eventually resolved for Figo, with a move to Spanish club FC Barcelona for a fee of £ 2.25 million,  under Dutch coach Johan Cruyff. It was with Barcelona from 1995 That his career really took off: Figo won a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1996-97, successive Primera División titles and went on to Appear 172 times for Barcelona, scoring 30 goals. During the summer of 2008, Figo's compatriot José Mourinho joined Inter on a managerial level. On 16 May 2009, Figo Announced his retirement from football, the same day Internazionale won the 2008-09 title, and re-confirmed this on 30 May; his final game was on 31 May against Atalanta at the San Siro. At Javier Zanetti's insistence, Figo captained the side for his very last match. Figo said, "I am leaving football, not Inter. Luis Figo was on the sidelines when Internazionale Milano won the 2009-10 UEFA Champions League on 22 May 2010.


Figo captained the squad during the 2006 World Cup, leading the team to the semi-finals, where They were beaten by France courtesy of a penalty from his club-mate and former French captain Zinedine Zidane. Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo's precocious talent caught the attention of Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson, WHO signed the 18-year-old for £ 12.24 million (€ 15 million) in 2003. Following the season, Ronaldo won his first club honor, the FA Cup and played at Euro 2004 with Portugal.

Ronaldo joined Sporting's other youth players WHO Trained at the Academia Sporting, the club's football academy, in Alcochete. Ronaldo's performance impressed the Manchester United players, WHO urged Ferguson to sign him. The 2006-2007 season proved to be the breakout year for Ronaldo, as he broke the 20 goal barrier for the first time and picked up his first league title with Manchester United.


Ronaldo amassed a host of personal awards for the season. He won the PFA Players' Player of the Year and PFA Young Player of the Year awards, joining Andy Gray (in 1977) as the only players to receive this honor. Ronaldo was also one of eight Manchester United players named in the 2006-07 PFA Premier League Team of the Year.


Four days later Ronaldo scored a second half hat-trick in a 3-0 win against Guadalajara. Ronaldo's preseason performance was highly praised as world media kept hailing Ronaldo's extreme competitiveness and motivation, even during friendly matches. On September 24 Ronaldo scored a hat-trick (including two Penalties) in Real Madrid's 6-2 drubbing of Rayo Vallecano at the Santiago Bernabéu. On September 27 Ronaldo scored Real's opening goal in a 3-0 defeat of Ajax in the Champions League. On 22 October, after not scoring in his previous three games, Ronaldo scored his tenth league hat-trick and Eleventh in total for Real Madrid in a match away to Malaga, the which Real Madrid won 4-0. On 19 November 2011, Ronaldo scored Real's second goal in a second -3 defeat of Valencia.


On November 26, 2011, Ronaldo scored two in a 4-1 Penalties defeat of Atletico Madrid in the El Derbi madrileño. On 3 December 2011, Ronaldo scored Madrid's second goal in a 0-3 defeat of Sporting de Gijón in La Liga. On December 17, 2011, Ronaldo scored his twelfth league hat-trick and Thirteenth overall in a 6-2 win away to Sevilla. Ronaldo was third in the 2010-11 UEFA Best Player Award in Europe, behind Lionel Messi and Xavi Hernández, and second in the 2011 FIFA Ballon d'Or, behind Lionel Messi and Xavi Hernández ahead of.


In Real Madrid's next game in La Liga at home to Granada Ronaldo scored the fifth goal in a 5-1 win. On 22 January Ronaldo scored two Penalties in a 4-1 win over Athletic Bilbao, and on January 28, scored Real Madrid's second and winning goal in a 3-1 win against Zaragoza. Ronaldo also scored two goals against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey Quarter-finals, the which Real lost 4-3 on aggregrate.  Ronaldo was the second-highest scorer in FIFA World Cup qualification in the European zone with seven goals, [106] and scored his first World Cup goal against Iran with a penalty kick. Ronaldo stayed, and signed his new five-year extension in April 2007.
